This piece is one of our most popular table builds, especially in the southwest whether dining indoor or back patio. It incorporates the 5" Boxcar plank which is usually reclaimed from the earlier cars going back to the 1940's. The species harvested thus far have been pine and the blood wood, which are the rarest of the planks, as they come from cars which have been sitting out of circulation way beyond the regulated 50 year life of a car. These cars are sometimes found on dead spurs, manufacturing yards or on remote farms throughout the country.
The blood wood is a very dense mahogany specie making the planks heavier than the pine but durable thus their use in the cars. There are 2 finish types we use on this build. A light to medium sand and then wax. Or, a medium sand and a lacquer finish which provides more of a less maintenance finish but brings out the natural pink hue of the wood which is gorgeous. Dimensions are L 93" to 97" x W 35"-40" in table or desk height. Other popular lengths of this build are 10' and 12' but they are custom.
